Following the Lakers’ 2021 season opener on Tuesday, Oct. 12, LeBron James had a short conversation with Anthony Davis, which was caught on camera, about the Netflix hit “Squid Game.”
“I didn’t like the ending,” James said to Davis as they discussed the show.

“Squid Game” has become Netflix’s biggest show to date, with 142 million households watching it in the few weeks it’s been released. While the show and ending has become a controversial topic for the show’s fans, James’ comment stood out to the show’s creator Hwang Dong-hyuk. Hwang made a point to mention James’ most recent acting role, too.
“Have you seen Space Jam 2?” Hwang said, via an interview with The Guardian. “LeBron James is cool and can say what he wants. I respect that. I’m very thankful he watched the whole series. But I wouldn’t change my ending. That’s my ending. If he has his own ending that would satisfy him, maybe he could make his own sequel. I’ll check it out and maybe send him a message saying, ‘I liked your whole show, except the ending.’”
James has not commented back to Hwang. Regardless of what Hwang said, though, James made it clear that he enjoyed the series and will probably watch season two whenever that comes out.
This isn’t the first time James has been linked to “Squid Game.” Korean actress Hoyeon Jung, who plays Kang Sae-byeok on the show, recently mentioned James in an interview with Vogue Korea stating that she admires the NBA star.
“I just think what he’s doing in the league in Year 19 is so unique. The way he gets to the paint at will, it’s amazing to watch,” Jung said. “I just think he’s something the world needs right now. Whenever I watch him play, my mood changes for the better.”
